Rafael RamacciottiDiplomaCremona

Rafael Guillermo RAMACCIOTTI was born in the city of La Plata, Argentina, in 1971. From 1997 to 2001 he studied in Cremona, Italy, to become Master Violinmaker at the International School of Violinmaking (Istituto Professionale Internazionale per L´artigianato Liutario e del Legno “A.Stradivari”). There he studied under the following Masters:  Massimo Ardoli, Massimo Negroni, Maurizio Tadioli, Alessandro Voltini, as well as under the French master-bowmaker Jean Narros, from whom he acquired advanced skills in the art of  bow restoration and maintenance.

In 2002 he moved to Gex in France, a quaint town in the shade of the Jura mountain range in the department of Rhone Alpes. There he set up his own workshop, making violins, violas and cellos, both modern and baroque, for well-known French musicians and  musicians from Geneva, Switzerland; including for the Orchestre Suisse Romande. He is especially proud of the violin he was specially commissioned to make for the Orchestre de la Ville de Gex. The instrument bears the emblematic shield of that town  ( see photos).

In 2005, he left France to return to Argentina, to the city of La Plata,  where, in addition to satisfying the demands of his foreign clients, he works in collaboration with musicians of the Teatro Argentino and with its Orquesta Académica,  with the Cuarteto de cuerdas de la Municipalidad de La Plata and with students of the Conservatorio de Música Gilardo Gilardi.

His instruments are modelled on those of the Ancient Cremona  Masters, such as Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù and the “brothers Amati”.

He is member of the Violin Society of America.
